Making Reading Make Sense
Maximize comprehension for all of your students, whether working on listening or reading skills.
Learn before reading strategies that can help you access student prior knowledge, during reading
strategies that aid in self monitoring for understanding, and post reading strategies that cement
the new learning.
Focus: K-2
Fast and Fluent
How should oral reading sound? If your students struggle through texts with word by word
reading, then this session is for you. You will learn whole group strategies that increase all three
important elements of fluent reading. Also, we will explore ways to coach and conference one-
on-one that will build the skills of your less fluent readers, too.
Focus: 1-3
Reading the World
McDonald’s…Pizza Hut…Wal-Mart… Hey, I can READ!!! Children first read the world and
then read the word. Capture this natural reading by the use of labels, logos, and signs. You’ll
discover fun and unique ways of tapping into what emergent readers already know and ways to
develop reading and writing skills via environmental print.
Focus: Pre-K-1
Fantastic Math
Take your students on the adventure of a lifetime – into the fantastic world of math! Explore fun
and games that teach number sense, fact strategies, graphing, problem solving and more. You
will leave with high interest (and easy-to-develop) activities that young mathematicians will
learn from and LOVE!
Focus: K-2
